Operation Achieve Anything: Day Two-Hundred-Fourteen, Dateline 8-2-2018

Moral codes adjust themselves to environmental conditions.
— Will Durant

Good evening crickets. Welcome to day number two-hundred-fourteen of Operation Achieve Anything. Yesterday turned out to be a fun day where I had my little nephew as an officemate throughout most of the day. Now that I have a new computer my old one is set up on the desk behind me since I plan to keep it running as a back for all of my files. That thing’s been with me through my busiest era of writing, so I am too afraid to permanently put the thing away no matter how many documents I switch over.

This computer also has my favorite dart monkey game called Bloons Tower Defence 5 that my nephew always asks me about, but I’m usually either too busy writing or working my day job to give him any computer time. So with this new set up, I figured, “Why not?”

It turned out to be pretty cool because he’s young enough that he’s never really used a computer, so it’s fascinating to see how quickly he’s picking everything up. It only took a couple minutes to go from where he was asking me to do everything that he couldn’t to where he was silently playing away.

Well, maybe not so silently as he was so excited that he kept telling me to look ever to seconds at what he’d done. I tried to play along as much as I could, but I also had my own work to do and couldn’t keep turning around. There were a few times that I got short with my response, but nothing harsher than a frustrated, “WHAT?” after hearing my name over and over in his efforts to get me to look.

I always feel like crap when this happens because all he is trying to do is share his fun, but unfortunately, we live in a world where we need to make money so I would always make it extra clear that the frustration stemmed from me having to do my job and not his enthusiasm.

For one, I wanted him to keep having fun because it wasn’t him or his noise that I was annoyed with, I just needed him to stop asking me to look at his computer screen. I also wanted to make it perfectly clear that he wasn’t the root of my frustration because my family is really big on denial which leads anger to often come from nowhere, only to have everyone act like nothing happened once an outburst is done.

In my youth, this led to a ton of confusion within me and I probably why I’ve never been able to gauge where I really stand with anyone and always assume there’s at least some underlying hate. Not wanting to pass this trait on, at least on my end, I always try to explain exactly where I’m coming from.

This taps into to yesterday’s task where I was supposed to share my moral obligation to the world. With the way things are going in the world right now, my gut reaction in none, since it doesn’t feel like it would make a dent in the current social environment that now seems to require 100% agreement with each individual every cause to avoid being labeled a bad guy.

Right now, all I can do is work as hard as I can on myself in order to hopefully get to a place where I might have enough money and power to really attempt to make a change. As is, I’m just another white guy that nobody wants to hear from. In my effort to get to this place, I plan to continue to be as honest as I can through these post in hopes that if I do get into a position of power, like with my nephew, everyone would know exactly where I was coming from and not speaking just to please.

As for the task for today, the lesson in the Achieve Anything… book was about how the moral code to society often changes with the social environment, so I’m supposed to share what I think is the moral code and social environment of today. With how crappy things are, part of me wonders if the book would’ve included this lesson if it was written today, or if they would have left it out to avoid an upswing of major depression amongst the readers of this book.

If that’s not a hint of what’s to come, I don’t know what else you need but, you’ll still have to wait for tomorrow’s update to hear what else I have to say. Until then, it’s time to wrap this thing up as usual by saying, good day and good luck to you and all of your projects.

Talk to you soon.

Sincerely,

The Wicker Breaker
