Resolution #261: Eat A Bunch Of Bugs...

Date: 9-18-2014

Due Date: 9-18-2015

The Resolution: I don't think I've intentionally eaten a bug since I was a little kid trying to gross someone out. Between Fear Factor, Survivor, and any travel show where villagers laugh as the host tries to force down a handful of insects, I wonder how those critters taste.

Granted these treats aren't still alive like they are in these shows but I found this sampler pack while perusing Amazon and figured I'd give it a shot.

Result #261: I Successfully Ate A Bunch Of Bugs... And… I Liked It!!!

Update #1: The Conclusion…

Date: 9-18-2015

I actually bought and ate these bugs pretty soon after setting this resolution. It was right around Christmas and I ordered this along with a smaller set for a coworker that I pulled for our Secret Santa. This other set of bugs has nothing to do with the story other than to point out the gap between eating these bugs and reporting on them.

I'll try my best to remember the details.

First off, none of them were that bad. The chocolate-covered bugs had enough of a coating that it just tastes like a crunchy chocolate bar. Both the Salt and Vinegar Crickets and the Sour Cream and Onion Crickets taste like the flavors so it wasn't that bad. The texture of the crickets was a little weird because the legs made it feel like I had hair in my teeth. The larva wasn't that bad both in flavor texture. Finally, the bugs trapped in hard candy weren’t that bad because, for the most part, you couldn’t distinguish the bug from the candy the moment you can finally start crunching it down…

So, I now know that if society does collapse I'll have it in me to live off bugs.
